Biography

Born in 1915, Anosovo (Smolensk region, russia). Graphic artist. People’s Artist of the RSFSR (1983). Laureate of the State Prize of the USSR (1978). Corresponding member of the USSR Academy of Arts (1958). He studied with his father, Heorhii Vereiskyi. A free student of the Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture of the All-Russian Academy of Arts (1936-1938). Teachers in the specialty: A. Osmiorkin, P. Naumov. Graduated from the Lieningrad Institute for Advanced Training of Art Workers (1939). Specialized teachers: M. Bernshtein, V. Voinov. During the Second World War, he was an artist for the Lieningrad “Boievoi karandash” and the front-line newspaper “Krasnoarmeyskaya Pravda” of the Western and III Bielarusian Fronts. He was an artist for the Ogoniok magazine (1946-1956). He was the head of the creative workshop of the USSR Academy of Arts (since 1978). Author of illustrations for works of russian, soviet and foreign literature. He was awarded a bronze medal at the World Exhibition in Brussels (1958) and a silver medal at the International Exhibition of Book Art in Leipzig (1977).
