In the painting Evening Motif [Vechirniy Motyv] (oil on canvas, 1989; acquired for the Khmelnytskyi Regional Art Museum collection from the artist in 1990), Ridna applied paint in broad, rapid, impasto, and expressive strokes. Rather than simply painting it, she virtually “sculpted” the work, giving it a remarkably relief-like surface that reflects a seamless blend of fine art painting and ceramic skills. The image is generalized, eschewing unnecessary detail. Rather than rendering the precise appearance of specific flowers, the artist seeks to channel their extraordinary vital energy. A prominent black contour plays a crucial role in the composition: it powerfully heightens the imagery through its contrast with the bright colors while evoking a mood aligned with the title. The still life Evening Motif resonates as a solemn floral color symphony, with the artist acting as its virtuoso conductor.
