…Love and creativity were the meaning of his life…

Denys Kryvyi was born on October 19, 1988, in Cherniakhiv, Zhytomyr region. He lived and went to school there. He entered the university in his mother’s homeland, Mykolaiv region. At the Pervomaiskyi Institute of the I. I. Mechnikov Odesa National University, he studied at the Faculty of History, led an active student life, and played drums in a band. He enjoyed traveling as a laboratory assistant on archaeological expeditions organized by the National Academy of Sciences.

Denys always strived to be the best. He easily and enthusiastically acquired new knowledge and skills. He loved to play sports. After graduation, he started working in design studios: Art Master, Zlata. At the same time, he conducted photographic tours and hikes in the Ukrainian Carpathians and the Buh Gard.

In 2008, he met his future wife, Halyna Volhina. At the same time, his passion for photography grew into a professional activity.

His photographs were published in the National Geographic magazine (founded in 1888 in the United States, the official publication of the National Geographic Society of the United States). He received the FIAP blue ribbon from the most prestigious European competition for photographers. He was a finalist at many international festivals and even made it to the TOP 100 best photographers in the world.

Photography faded into the background with the birth of his children. Denys is the father of two wonderful daughters: Solomiya and Melissa. He adored his girls and tried to devote all his time to them.

When the full-scale war started, he began to actively volunteer. In March 2022, he expressed his desire to serve and volunteered. In July of the same year, he joined the ranks of the Special Forces. He became a senior flamethrower operator of the Special Forces group and was very proud of it.

…Denys died on May 11, 2023, in Bakhmut, when he tried to save his wounded comrade-in-arms.

Denys was a man who did a lot, and even more than a lot. And still he believed that it was not enough…

Glory, gratitude and a blessed memory to the Hero!
