Mini-exhibition of Anatolii Domnych’s drawings (from the collection of the KhRMA) as part of the exhibition project “Cheers!”
8 October 2024 - 10 November 2024

KhRMA continues the project “Cheers!” dedicated to the artists who will be celebrating their anniversaries in 2024. Ukraine is fighting for Independence, for Freedom, for Identity. For the right to live freely on its land. Our museum is also fighting, popularizing the national art that identifies us as Ukrainians.

Unfortunately, not much information has been preserved about the artist Anatolii Trokhymovych Domnych. It is known that he was born on June 11, 1924 in Krasnohrad, now Kharkiv region, and died on February 18, 2007 in Kyiv. He was a participant in World War II and received military awards. From 1947 to 1951, he studied at the Lviv Institute of Applied and Decorative Arts, where his teachers were, among others, Stefania Gebus-Baranetska and Roman Selskyi. He continued his studies at the Kyiv Art Institute (Vasyl Kasiian’s graphic studio), graduating in 1956. Since 1959, he has participated in art exhibitions. Later he lived and worked in Kyiv. In 1993, he was awarded the title of Honored Worker of Culture. He was engaged in painting, graphics and monumental art. The artist’s works include illustrations for books, posters, postcards, a series of painted landscapes, and engraved panels.

This exhibition presents works from the graphic series “Fortresses and Castles of Ukraine” (1985-1989). As for the presented works, the artist balances on the verge of realism and stylization. The influence of the Lviv school is noticeable in the graphic sheets. Anatolii Domnych’s lines seem to create the effect of restrained dynamics and expression, or static and monumental. The artist does not just reproduce images of fortresses, but tries to immerse himself in the history of strongholds.
