Biography
Born in 1891, Kobyletska Polyana (Zakarpattia region). Painter, teacher. People’s Artist of the USSR (1963). Honored Artist of the Ukrainian SSR (1951). Corresponding Member of the USSR Academy of Arts (1958). Graduated from the Budapest Academy of Arts (1914). His teacher was Imre Revesz. He taught at the Uzhhorod School of Applied Arts (1945-1957) and the Lviv State Institute of Applied and Decorative Arts (1951-1957). Together with A. Erdeli, he organized the first art school in Zakarpattia (1927). He initiated the creation of the “Society of Fine Arts Workers in Pidkarpattia Rus” (1931). Participant of exhibitions since 1926. He was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor, the Badge of Honor, and medals of the USSR.
