Lives and works in Kyiv.
Despite being born and raised in a family of distinguished artists, Olena Ryzhykh avoided epigonism through persistent work and tireless experimentation, forging her own unique path in painting. Her oeuvre encompasses figurative compositions, landscapes, still lifes, abstractions, installations, and kinetic art objects. Additionally, she engages in cultural diplomacy, having served as a Ukrainian delegate at the 7th World Summit on Arts and Culture in Valletta, Malta.
Reflecting on her creative methodology, Olena Ryzhykh outlines several key components:
“A specific emotional state and energetic atmosphere, coloristic direction, and an expressive composition with a clear structure, where all elements of an abstract or figurative plot are joined by an internal framework of geometric forms. For me, the core of every work relies on a defined interplay of colors and structures, where each hue and spatial proportion plays a role in the mise-en-scène of painting as theatre. I build these carefully weighed compositions through an unrepeatable, spontaneous process marked by unexpected phenomena as I work—which is why I never duplicate my compositions.
My figurative compositions are always rooted in laconic structures where forms feature linear refrains and are connected by plastic nodes containing only the essential—the core of the narrative and meaningful details. I dedicate my works to themes that matter deeply to me: the Bible—primarily the Gospels—Greek mythology, love, human relationships, and my favorite corners of the world that possess timeless value. I strive to infuse my art with profound meaning, combining painterly, coloristic, and compositional qualities with genuine, living emotion.”
