Biography
Born in 1884, Kherson. Painter. People’s Artist of the USSR (1944). Honored Artist of the Ukrainian SSR (1941). Laureate of the Taras Shevchenko State Prize of the Ukrainian SSR (1970). Full member of the Academy of Arts of the USSR (1947). Member of the Odesa Society of Artists named after K. Kostandi (1924-1929). Participant of the German-Soviet War. Graduated from Odesa Art School (1908) and St. Petersburg Academy of Arts (1917). Teachers in the specialty: K. Kostandi, V. Savynskyi, H. Ladyzhenskyi. He taught at the Odesa Art Institute, professor (1935); at the Kyiv State Art Institute (1936-1965). Participant of exhibitions since 1918. He was awarded the Order of Lenin, three Orders of the Red Banner of Labor, medals of the USSR, and a diploma of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Ukrainian SSR. He was awarded the Grand Prix and a gold medal at the International Exhibition in Paris (1937), a silver medal at the World Exhibition in Brussels (1958).
