Information about the work
Metamorphoses [Metamorfozy] (canvas, acrylic, 1995, donated to the Khmelnytskyi Regional Art Museum collection by the author in 1996) reflects Savchenko’s contemplation on global transformations—changes in consciousness, meanings, form, structure, and worldview. Indeed, in the year the work was painted, precisely such shifts were taking place in society and in the life of every individual. Thus, the author paints a canvas full of dynamics and internal tension, where an utter chaos of vaguely shaped color spots and stripes appears to reign. In reality, however, the composition is strictly balanced, while the light color scheme offers hope for the transience of all trials.
Mykola Stepanov, artist and art critic: “A famous avant-gardist once said: ‘I cannot look at my own works for more than a minute.’ But one can look at Serhiy Savchenko’s paintings for hours, immersing oneself in them as if in a Ukrainian melody, a Ukrainian night, or our warm Black Sea…”
