Landscapes We Didn’t Deserve
Screenshot-exhibition by Vladyslav Nimak (Kalush)
6 October 2023 - 2 November 2023

Vladyslav Nimak: “I am an aerial reconnaissance man. I have been performing tasks since November 2022 in Zaporizhzhia region. My main activity here is decryption – analyzing flights and identifying “something interesting” among the many hours of flights by Mavic, or some reconnaissance wing, or bomber.

The footage you see here was selected by me from thousands of photo and video archives taken by our unit.

88% of the material in the gallery is from the occupied territories.

12% is the “gray” zone.

Drones have different cameras. Sometimes they can be simple civilian cameras or action cameras, such as go-pro.

The main thing is that different moments are captured and recorded. And often these moments are incredibly beautiful. It seems that all these shards, all these pits, trenches, ruins, landings want to tell us something. Or rather, to scream. And to scream as loudly as possible.

Unfortunately, as of today, these fields and lawns are not occupied by boys and girls from Ukraine, but by a “pan-ethnic” horde from Muscovy that has come here for no reason.

Of course, these lands will be returned to Ukraine and the shelling will also stop, but TODAY we have an interesting opportunity to observe the occupied territories and see what is happening there – across the border.

It is interesting to look at the trench lines, at the APCs, tanks, motorized skis, caponiers and observation posts.

Another mission of this exhibition is to show that aerial reconnaissance in war, despite the mortal danger, is a rather interesting occupation.

Who knows, maybe someone who looks at these screenshots will become a reconnaissance man in the future.

The screenshot exhibition “Landscapes We Didn’t Deserve” aims to show the average viewer the beauty of a random moment captured by a military drone.”
