Ukrainian Renaissance
Photo art project
3 June 2022 - 1 July 2022

The Ukrainian Renaissance photo art project was created out of love for art and Ukraine. It was born as a master’s project in the specialty 021 “Audiovisual Art and Production” in 2021 at the Kyiv National University of Culture and Arts. Before its birth, for three years, it grew from the seeds of curiosity and passion for photography, Ukrainian culture, and world heritage. The project in its original form is devoted to the theme of “revival” in two concepts. The Renaissance as a period in history and art, a distant ideal era that serves as a benchmark and is an artistic and cultural heritage that continues to inspire. The second concept of “revival” means the revival of Ukrainian values and traditions through the symbolic image of a Ukrainian girl who appears in the photographs of the photo-art project in various roles with deep roots in Ukrainian authenticity and folklore. After the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the project acquired new meanings about the renaissance of Ukraine as a whole and was supplemented by three series of photographs that became an artistic reflection of the author’s experiences.

Iryna Zaspa is passionate about modeling, acting, and has been involved in organizing various shoots for over six years. She also has a bachelor’s degree in fine arts and artistic culture and is currently a PhD student in cultural studies at the Kyiv National University of Culture and Arts. The combination of these activities is reflected in her idea. Where she is the model and ideological organizer.

The leading idea of this photo art project today is to demonstrate the renaissance as the inevitable future of Ukraine, with national identity and the preservation of our culture, which is a world heritage.
