Exhibition of works by Nadia Boretska
19 May 2022 - 20 June 2022

While studying at the Lviv State Institute of Decorative and Applied Arts (now the Lviv Academy of Arts) with her extremely powerful teachers Borys Buriak and Bohdan Halytskyi, Nadiia realized that art should not only impress aesthetically, but should also carry certain meanings. And an artist can only become an outstanding artist if he or she remembers the past, thinks about the future, and is not afraid to experiment in the present. That is why the artist has been working in this unrestrained movement for over 30 years. The field for experimentation turned out to be almost unlimited: highly artistic works in the field of artistic textiles, painting, stained-glass, and various types of folk art. Nadiia Boretska has initiated and participated in more than 30 different symposia and plein airs, and has taken part in more than 60 exhibitions. She has been a member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine since 1993 and the International Textile Network ETN (Hannover, Germany).

The anniversary exhibition, which was planned at #KhRAM back in October, was originally intended to introduce the audience to the artist’s creative heritage, because, according to her, it was at this age that she began to feel completely free and especially ready for all kinds of experiments and creative pursuits. But everything changed on the morning of February 24. One of the central works of the exhibition, Ukrainian Madonna, is dedicated to this date. In general, the viewers will be presented with works created over the past year, in which the artist reflects on the theme of war, history and the genetic memory of our people. The paintings will be complemented by weightless batik, which fully demonstrate the originality of Nadia Boretska’s creative thinking and her hope that the war will end, and all Ukrainians will live and create in the “Free World”.
