The world has become too fast-paced. From the moment you wake up in the morning to turn off the alarm on your phone to the moment you browse the latest news before going to bed, you are surrounded by hundreds of logos. You probably don’t pay attention to them. But that’s only at first glance. In the age of visual communications, it’s pointless to deny the fact that a logo is an essential element of a brand’s image and recognition. Modern people perceive what they see better than what they hear. And it is the logo, thanks to its unique combination of external characteristics and trends, that acts as the “face” of millions of companies around the world. As a rule, when creating branded trademarks, the focus is on collective creativity with a tendency to depersonalize the artist.
Today, however, we have a great opportunity to get acquainted with the work of the famous Khmelnytskyi artist Yakiv Marianovych Pavlovych, who created more than 350 brand marks, logos, icons, bookplates, about a hundred booklets, the design of more than two dozen books, as well as posters and catalogs of enterprises in Ukraine and Turkmenistan.
Using a variety of shapes, symbols, colors and fonts, the author solves complex tasks in graphic miniatures that define the special culture and ideals of certain organizations. Among the most famous are the logo of the Taras Shevchenko Khmelnytsky Regional Library for Children, the newspapers Podilski Visti and Podilska Zoria, the trademark of the Ekonom trademark, and others.
Yakov Pavlovich’s creative interests include not only industrial graphics. The tragic pages of our nation’s history and the heroism of individuals inspire the artist to create museum exhibitions. He is the author of the expositions of the Shepetivka Museum of Local Lore, the Museum of Local Lore in the State Historical and Cultural Reserve “Mezhybizh”, the Museum of the Depot “Hrechany”, and the Derazhnya Museum of Local Lore. In total, he has decorated more than 30 museums.
Another area of Yakov Marianovych’s creative activity is the compositional solution of landscape design. Among the most prominent projects he has implemented are the development of a comprehensive improvement of the square near the former Silistra cinema, memorial squares to World War II soldiers in Khmelnytskyi, Popivtsi and Davydkivtsi villages of Khmelnytskyi region.
The artist’s work is honored by his colleagues and the public. From 1995 to 2000, Yakiv Pavlovych headed the Khmelnytskyi regional organization of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine. In 2001, he was awarded the Regional Prize named after V. Rozvadovskyi for his creative activity.
Since this retrospective exhibition is dedicated to the artist’s 80th birthday, we sincerely hope that it will be an impetus for new creative experiments. After all, as Lina Kostenko said: “Everything in the world must be experienced, and every finish is, in fact, a start…”
